This public talk and the performance afterwards explore the changing meanings of Soviet heritage through the artistic practice of Zhanna Kadyrova and her work Deer. As part of the Ukrainian Biennale delegation in Berlin, Kadyrova reflects on how Soviet-era symbols are being reinterpreted, contested, and transformed today—particularly in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The discussion invites audiences to consider art as a critical tool for rethinking memory, monumentality, and public space in times of political rupture.
