There will be a public guided tour of the S0TUS" exhibition by the curator of the exhibition Eva Yakubovska and researcher Margarita Yegorchenko at 18.30.

Join us for a lecture as part of the support program for the exhibition "STUS." Margarita Yegorchenko will explore the crucial role of translation in the life and work of Ukrainian poet Vasyl Stus.

Stus was not only a gifted poet but also an avid translator, with a particular focus on German literature. This lecture will situate his translation work within the broader context of 20th-century Ukrainian translation history, especially during the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s when the Ukrainian language faced significant threats from the Soviet regime.

Yegorchenko will analyze the pivotal role that translation played in Stus's biography and artistic development, focusing specifically on his translations of iconic authors Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Rainer Maria Rilke. By examining Stus's "relationship" with these literary giants, we will delve into the profound significance of literature and culture as forms of resistance against oppressive totalitarian power.
