Film Screening: “20 Days in Mariupol” and Public Talk with the Audience

The film screening of “20 Days in Mariupol” and the subsequent public talk with the audience received the Pulitzer Prize in May 2023 as “a recognition of the bravery and professionalism of the producer team in showing the horrific reality of the war in Ukraine,” and in March this year, it will be competing for an Oscar in the Best Documentary category.

On the same day we will also present the War Crimes Report which was conducated by the Lemkin Centre (check further down below).

17:45: Public Discussion with Liudmyla Vaskovska (a witness and doctor from Mariupol) and Mykhailo Dianov (a defended Mariupol and was wounded while defending his position at Azovstal)

“20 Days in Mariupol” is a documentary by Ukrainian war correspondent, writer, and AP videographer Mstyslav Chernov, focusing on the siege of Mariupol in February-March 2022 during the full-scale russian invasion. As the only international reporters who remain in the city, an AP team of Ukrainian journalists capture what later become defining images of the war: dying children, mass graves, the bombing of a maternity hospital, and more. Tens of thousands of civilians were able to leave only after March 15. The final death toll is still unknown, but it is likely more than 100,000 victims.

Panelists:

- Liudmyla Vaskovska, a witness and doctor from Mariupol
- Mykhailo Dianov, a soldier of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade, defended Mariupol and was wounded while defending his position at Azovstal, survived russain captivity.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Hanna Radziejowska and Eva Yakubovska.

19:45 - 20:45: War Crimes Reports from the Lemkin Center

Gain a comprehensive overview of the reports on war crimes compiled by the Lemkin Center at the Pilecki Institute. This public presentation aims to shed light on the critical documentation of war crimes and provide insights into the human rights situation throughout the entire war.

During the presentation, Yulia Mizyukina and Kateryna Zhuk will firsthand report on the collection of witness statements on-site and the current challenges in Ukraine. Additionally, Anton Korynevych, the current representative of Ukraine in The Hague, will speak about possible legal avenues for prosecuting Russian crimes in Ukraine
