The third event in the Exercising [Eastern] Modernity lecture series will be delivered by Dr Anna Karpenko. Her lecture will revolve around the linear understanding of the “East” which is oftentimes present at western universities as well as question the underlying assumptions behind the notion of the “East” as applied in the concepts of Eastern Europe and Middle East. By examining various empirical cases she will also show how the so-called new postcolonial studies again define the binaries of East and Westand why Minsk and Beirut have much more in common than Minsk and Berlin.

The Lecture will be held in English.
