This discussion brings together experts and scholars to explore the intertwined histories of the Ukrainian dissident movement—represented by poet and activist Vasyl Stus—and the Polish human rights movements of the late 20th century. The conversation will focus on their shared resistance against authoritarian regimes, the mutual influence of both movements, and the lasting legacy of solidarity between Ukrainian and Polish activists.

The panel will highlight the transformative power of collective action, resistance, and cross-border support, encouraging participants to reflect on how these historical connections continue to resonate in today’s struggles for human rights and democracy in Europe.

Referenten:

• Marcin Gaczkowski – Polish scholar and translator specializing in Ukrainian literature and culture. He has translated numerous Ukrainian literary works into Polish and actively promotes Ukrainian studies and intercultural understanding.
   
• Mateusz Fałkowski – Deputy Head of the Pilecki Institute in Berlin. His academic work focuses on the history and theory of social movements, with a particular emphasis on the Solidarność movement.
   
• Maciej Piotrowski (Moderator) – Historian and political scientist specializing in Eastern European studies. His research focuses on the political and historical dynamics of the region, particularly in relation to Ukraine.
